Shoe Thrower Gathers Support

The Baghdad reporter Muntadhar al-Zaidi, now famous for throwing his shoes at President Bush in an attempt to humilate him, is garnering support throughout the world. He yelled "This is your farewell kiss, you dog!" to Bush as he took aim at the President. Throughout the Arab world protestors have taken to the streets and airways demanding al-Zaidi's release.

His supporters are not limited to the Arab world. Bush is vilified throughout the modern world for his actions, policies and invasion of Iraq. In March of 2007 I was in Rio de Janiero when protesters threw rocks and bottles at his limo and demonstrated in the streets where ever he spoke. Riot police were the only thing that keep the protesters from their intended target.

The symbolism of throwing the shoes is now being lost as it has become a joke and ammunition for late night comedians. al-Zaidi's intent was to bring to the forefront the tens of thousands of Iraqis that have died in Bush's war.

I read a terrific article this morning, check it out: http://riverscrap.typepad.com/home/2008/12/iraqi-shoethrower-steals-limelight-from-suicide-bombers.

Charles Barkley: “I’m a Big Gay Marriage Guy”

“I am a big pro-choice guy. I am a big gay marriage guy and they are so divisive and that is not my idea of religion. My idea of religion is we are supposed to bring people together. We are not supposed to judge other people.”

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES WIN WORLD SERIES

The Phillies are the 2008 world champions, with Brad Lidge closing out a 4-3, unbelievable Game 5 victory over the Rays to end the season in style at Citizens Bank Park and bring the kind of joy to The City of Brotherly Love that you couldn't imagine.

Horns were blaring, screams in the distance and the explosions of fireworks filled the night. The Phillies won the World Series and the air tonight was electric. Strangers hugged and I have random high fives to passers by. Everyone young and old came out of their homes and headed toward the nearest major intersection.

The Phillies are World Champions and the parade is Friday. One down and an election to go. I can't get that tune from Queen out of my head, We are the Champions!

Philly Takes 3-1 Lead Over Rays In World Series

Blanton became the first pitcher in 34 years to homer in the World Series, Howard drove in five runs with two homers and the Phillies romped over the Tampa Bay Rays 10-2 on Sunday night to move within one win of their first championship since 1980. Jayson Werth also homered as the Phillies took a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Series. Cole Hamels will try to close out the Phillies' second Series title on Monday night against Scott Kazmir in a rematch of Game 1 starters. Hamels (4-0) is trying to become the first pitcher to win five postseason starts in one year. Of the 42 teams to take 3-1 World Series leads, 36 have gone on to win the crown. "It will be absolute bedlam," Howard said of a Phillies' possible title. "It will be one of the craziest places on Earth. It's kind of scary to imagine."

D.L.Hughley BREAKS THE NEWS on CNN

Tonight D.L. Hughley launched his new new show on CNN, D.L. Hughley Breaks The News. I am very excited for D.L. who, like myself, is a self admitted news junkie.

I want to love this show and I will be tuning in to watch the progress. It is off to a somewhat uneven start, I enjoyed many of the sketches, while others I found lacking.

The high point of the show was D.L.'s interview with Scott McClellan, former Bush White house Spokesperson. The exchange was smart, funny and ended with McClellan's endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for president.

There was a segment tonight with CNN correspondents in China, Russia, and India. What awesome resources and potential. I am looking forward to next weeks show, in the meanwhile I need to get an email off to D.L. and his writers. Congratulations Mr. Hughley!

So what if Obama were a Muslim or Arab?

I have enjoyed Campell Brown since I firt saw her, sit in, several years ago on the Today show. However her candor, honesty, and integrity which she has repeatedly demonstrated in this election are why I have such respect for her. Bravo Campbell!

McCain Supporter Wants to Clear the Air

Last week, James Harris became one of the most infamous McCain supporter in the country due to the video footage of him begging John McCain to "take it to" Barack Obama at a Republican rally. I was simply appalled, stunned, and disgusted by what I had witnessed of James Harris. Like many, I questioned his authenticity, motivation, and integrity.

"We have the good Reverend Wright. We have [the Reverend Michael L.] Pfleger,” Harris said to the cheers of thousands of White audience members. “I am begging you, sir. I am begging you. Take it to him.” Harris then hugged McCain to thunderous applause of Sarah Palin and the audience. Youtube Video

NBC Heroes - I am such a Geek

I am such a geek, especially on Monday evenings when my favorite show is broadcast on NBC. Not since Captain Picard was in command of the Star Ship Enterprise have I been so infatuated with a science fiction television series.

The third season of Heroes, entitled "Villains" launched approximately three weeks ago to much fanfare and a pre-show celebration; after all this show has proven to be a cash cow for the network. Each week I am delighted by the plot development and character reveal. I even watch the rerun each following Tuesday online at http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/ . I have yet to delve into the entire online world of Heroes Evolutions, but time will tell.

My desire to purchase the newest release of each DVD faded away about two years ago with the introduction of Blue Ray. I was no longer compelled to purchase the most recent Tuesday release of every film; I was no longer deluded into believing in the DVD's worth. However, I find myself wanting Seasons One and Two of Heroes. So just in case you had a desire to purchase this geek a gift you could not go wrong with a Box Set.

BEVERLY HILLS CHIHUAHUA

This afternoon my, nine year old, niece and I fell in love with Disney's latest release, Beverly Hill's Chihuahua. It is a delightfully funny and entertaining film, my favorite in some time. This film does not contain the social commentary of Wall-E, but it is delightful fluff for the family. Although, being universally panned by the critics I highly recommend this film to all dog lovers, young and old.
