SCLC Leader Criticizes Anti-Gay, Black Pastors Who Support Prop 8

Rev. Eric Lee, President of the California Chapters of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference spoke in an interview.

"I would remind - particulalry the African American clergy - that the people who are driving this fight for Proposition 8 and to deny the civil rights of one group of people are the same people who considered African Americans inferior and used the Bible to justify slavery, Jim Crow segregation, discrimination. It's the same Church - the Mormon Church that did not allow blacks into the priesthood and did not allow them into Mormon heaven. So I think we have to consider the source - and so when you look at the source, it should automatically cause a red flag to be raised"

Re. Eric Lee is sadly mistaken. While the conspiracy theory may be his reason to not support MARRIAGE between a man and a woman I cannot believe the audacity of the Rev. to allow mixture to permeate his reasoning. Marriage between a man and a woman is the first institution that God created! Being a Rev. myself I find no place to justify the redefining of the term marriage to suit a groups personal preferences. The strongest "backers" of the proposition is the African American community. I implore Rev. Lee to search the history of his family and see what fabric the family structure is built upon. This is not a Civil Rights issues. First, civil rights were given to people with inherent (unchangeable) differences. Have you ever met a former African American? I have met plenty of former gay people. I am not hating, but I am clarifying. Gay peopls already have all the right and benefits of marriage according to Californaia code 297.5. Don't try to make this something that it is not; it is about Marriage, one of the core foundations of our society and family structure. Let's think about the effects of a redefinition in our families and children's lives, let alone from a Christian perspective. Get Real- Vote Yes on 8!

Vote No on Prop 8, it is time that religious bigotry and hatred stop shaping the political landscape. Seperation of church and state, if marriage is a legal institution it must be availed to all.

Religious groups, sects, and denominations do not have to support marriage within their faith. However do not legislate your bigotty upon the nation.

Bravo Rev Lee!
