If you, like me, tuned into the Vice Presidential debate waiting for Sarah Palin to once again make a fool of herself and to implode the McCain campaign, we were disappointed. Sarah Palin showed up last night with her "A" game, and I was impressed with her preparation. It was a return to the Palin of the RNC who reached out to her base: "Joe six-pack" and "hockey moms" across this nation. This is the Palin that I expect more of in 2012 when she launches her own bid for the White House.
Last nights debate was devoid of the painfully embarrassing and often amusing sound bites that Palin generates when thinking on her feet. She was well briefed and prepared; although she declined to answer the moderator's direct questions. "I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I'm going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record also," she said early in the debate. Through the course of the debate she consistently returned to her track record and the topic of energy however inappropriate for the question at hand.
Her informal style helped her connect with middle America, however it did nothing to help the McCain campaign. Sarah Palin won ground and she did her own damage control. Sarah summed up the evening quite well with "I've only been at this for five weeks". Imagine what she can do with four more years of preparation; Palin for President, I betcha!
